Dear Diary,
I struggled hard a couple of days ago. I was trying to let everyone know what I was using and I couldn’t. It made me feel inferior. Maybe I should talk to my therapist about this. Or the internet. Yeah. Definitely the internet. They’ll understand.
All jokes aside, I’m building myself yet another playground org because I wanted to come up with my own use case as I was following along with my study resources.
The use case for my org so far is that my daughter Scout has a burgeoning pillow fighting career and we needed to create a calendar to schedule trainings and other events necessary to pillow fighting. We’re not fucking around here, this is an aspiration.
After starting the org, I first needed to create a public calendar. I chose the most permissive settings as anyone who has access to the org currently should be able to edit Scout’s information. Her fight club is not yet that large.
The next thing that I needed to look at was to make sure that we were going to throw down in a room that nobody was currently using, to avoid exposure of the fight club. We would also need to make sure that enough pillows were available in the house, as there is a limit to the supply.
To ensure that we had sufficient pillows, I wanted to make sure that everyone in the org could book them for any reason, be it siesta or fiesta.
One would think, as with public calendars, that you could just add one from the settings area. You can’t though, and that’s what really bummed me out.
Soooooooo…. Here’s how I added them!
It’s not the most logical thing I’ve ever seen, but it makes sense afterwards.
I needed to add Attendees to the Event Layout by way of the object manager. This allows for calendars, resources, and people to be added to events.

After saving the layout, I wanted to make sure the living room was free and that we could book a pillow for that time. No naptime. This ain’t a game. This is real life.
I meandered my way to the calendar by using the App Launcher <3.
I could then add resources for The Living Room and Pillows, plus an extra calendar in case anyone needed the day off. I modified these sharing rules to allow for anyone in the org to see and edit events and saved so I could book these resources. Again, we’re a small, mostly clandestine, operation.
From there, I added one of Scout’s Bouts to the calendar. This time, her opponent was her imagination. Just learning fundamentals right now. I also booked a pillow so she could swing that thing. I booked the living room because I wanted Mom to know that hour may not be the best time to work from the living room. I did all this through the Attendees field on the Scout’s Bout event that we added.
Here’s how it looked when I was finished.

As you can see, we know that Scout had a fight at 12:30 yesterday in the living room, and that she had booked use of a pillow for that time. Additionally, you can see that I took today off from training using a Time Off calendar AND booked use of a pillow. Why? Because I’m freaking tired. Don’t judge me.
The adding of a resource was the first major concept that tripped me up in my second round of studies, so I wanted to post about it! I feel like if I can effectively show my work to others, it will increase my confidence in the subjects I am weakest in. Thanks for listening to this bullshit <3.
