I need to optimize my org to the point that Scout can understand it and to have enough information so that Sailor can read it.
Sailor just turned 8. She’s from New Orleans and she’ll let you know about it. She’s a thoughtful girl and a great big sister, and I’m happy to call her my own, even if I’m not her actual dad. Sailor just heard a shout about Scout’s Bouts and confirmed that I do, in fact, need to be institutionalized. Just don’t call her “Hamantha”, or any variation of it. Please don’t.
New character development out of the way, let me explain what I’m trying to do here, and then steps that I have taken to achieve some of these results. This won’t be an exhaustive list, because I just press buttons sometimes, but it will be a close approximation of those.
I’m trying to make this org easy enough to understand that both of the children could access this and understand what we are trying to accomplish here
Scout is less than two years and thus has a limited capacity. Visuals that draw her attention will be the key to having her use this. We need it right at the start as she is a baby and will thus lose interest 12 seconds into anything unless it involves terrorizing a chihuahua. Enter the use case of the emoji.

Sailor is slightly below grade level in reading, although her comprehension of the actual story is very strong. With this obstacle, I will focus on delivering the org’s information in a way that Sailor can understand and share with her sister, as she is still fluent in gibberish and Wingdings. This will theoretically serve as an opportunity for Sailor to improve her reading skill organically. That’s why I’m trying to get her to buy into this cult.
Going into this experiment, I was rather pessimistic about the ability to simplify the world’s most customizable platform for a child given the expansive nature of the ecosystem. Like customizing alone? Easy. Customizing for a 1-year-old? Now we gotta think.

Allie, the world’s best mentor, challenged me to make this happen, and to share obstacles that I face along the way. I decided to use an old product bug template to fully report the issue in a way that allows for quick reference, as is necessary in both the tech world and in parenting.
I expect that the final product will be close to what I dreamed of while running into a litany of issues along the way. I will use this blog as a way to report what is going on.
At this point in my use case timeline, I have completed the Company Settings portion (irrelevant to the storyline so far, I’ll save you the snoozefest). Just know that our squad is Scout Magnolia Enterprises, and we roll deep like Adele.
The key to forcing my girls to use Salesforce is to make this as easy as possible to digest, and to get rid out of absolutely everything that doesn’t serve the sole purpose of ease of access. Taking Horton’s big ass to Whoville, basically. Honey, I Shrunk the Org.
You will see the results as this story grows. Mind you, this story, as with Scout, is young. Sailor thinks she’s grown, but that’s another issue. We’ll continue developing her character throughout this exercise.

To make everything as easily as possible for the children, the easiest way to package this would be through an app, where I can pick and choose only the most relevant information and the best way to show it so everybody understands. I chose the most simple layout for ease of customizing it for the girls, so there’s only one section to it, all components will be added to the same section. Makes enough sense to me.
The dashboard section will contain visuals relevant to the career of Scout, including height, weight, win/loss record, and number of KOs. In this instance, knocking out means that you fall asleep in the middle of the pillow fight because the pillow is just too comfortable. A TKO is when you unintentionally fall asleep, as evidenced by the following carboloaded nap.

The Scouting Report is the area where we can view information about Scout’s friends, competitors, and textile manufacturers for pillow troubleshooting purposes, plus a list of things to do.
I chose to include a Chatter section, called Feed Me. As per its name, this will usually be for polls and feedback about what the fighters require for their nutritional intake. Scout has a healthy diet of anything that is in the kitchen, including the sink. She is a firm believer that the man who woks his dog will never go hungry, so she’s been trying to cook poor Tito for a minute now.

The Bye? section is because that is Scout’s favorite word, meaning it’s a list of things that need to be done before ceasing her training for the day. It’s mainly eating, pooping, and laughing.
The only major struggle I’ve had recently is that I went gung-ho pressing buttons because I love console view, but undoing it seems damn near impossible. That will be my next post, a Console awareness post, because why not, it’s dope.

- Having completed the Prepare for your Administrator Credential Exam Trailhead in its entirety, I am beginning this round of study using three primary resources. I am referencing Dave Massey’s Udemy and Get Force Certified offerings, and I am using Focus on Force whenever it’s time to hammer out the practice exams. My storyline of org changes will roughly follow along with the order these objectives are presented.

- Thank you to the Salesforce Ohana Slack room for acting as another proving ground for prospective admins to learn about the most ridiculous use case they will witness in their lifetime.
- Thank you to Allie for her time and expertise. I hope you feel better soon.
- Thank you to Julie for being the first person to really encourage me to keep digging through the Salesforce universe.

- I welcome feedback. If you’re reading this, it’s because it was somehow linked to you through our network, most likely by myself. Say hi to me.
That’s it for today, tune in next time as Scout attempts to max out the number of naked pull-ups that she does on the table.
